As Chair of Forest and Environmental Policy, we focus our research and teaching on the analysis of political processes in the area of land use. We examine the relationship between societies and their natural environment and thereby build a bridge between the natural and social sciences. In this position, we seek to address the overall research question of how people’s dealing with their natural environment is politically structured at a local, regional and national level, as well as in international and transnational contexts.
We look at socio-political processes in land use and how these relate to the society at large. The analysis of frames of reference and decision-making behavior of people as individuals and as members of groups or organizations forms the starting point of much of our research. Our empirical studies of land use policy and politics aim at both solution-oriented political consulting and problem-oriented theory development. Our partners in business, civil society and governmental authorities benefit from our research, since it helps them improve decision-making.
Current research focus on "forest and health" with two new projects:
- Forest use for health purposes - observation and analysis of current developments for the strategic positioning of forest stakeholders
